Excerpt from my letter to a doctor

It is quite rare that you find a doctor who is competent, compassionate and kind, which is why I was driven to express my appreciation when I found one.

"You seemed to have stepped out of the 80s serial, "Dhoop Kinaray", all with your liveliness and pleasant countenance. These days when one is more afraid of the doctor than of his illness, you were most kind and compassionate, attending my daughter in the most affectionate, tactful and friendly of ways, that she, who would wail at the slightest of touch, was calmed down and easily let you examine her foot as you wisely distracted her and joked around with her. The young doctors around you too caught the vibe and were a group of cheerful folk in an environment as cold, serious and gloomy as a hospital, like an oasis in the desert.

I've written this letter just to state how pleasantly surprised and pleased I was to have met a doctor in this day and age who seems to really know what it means to be a doctor, to know that it is much more than skill, knowledge and degree, to know that his job begins the moment a patient looks at him for comfort, assurance and cure. We had never met you but you attended us with such warmth and courtesy that we haven't felt that comfort with most doctors who we have been seeing all our life.

I just wanted to thank you for that day and hope and pray that you continue to treat your patients and anyone you meet with the same warmth and concern. It is a rare virtue these days and I'm sure your parents have done a fine job with you. I don't know whether you are religious or not but you are a reflection of our Prophets(SAW) sunnah who always stressed on ikhlaq and you made me realize its importance and effectiveness even more."
